Training with CM
Start or accelerate your accountancy career with our highly successful training programmes.
For over two decades, CM has been committed to developing talent, employing between 20 and 30 trainees at any one time. We provide the pathway and support needed to become a highly skilled professional right here on the Isle of Man, guided by our proven training philosophy: The CM Approach.
CM has provided specialised training contracts for students of ACA, ACCA and CAT for over 20 years and has seen over 50 trainees successfully graduate through the program in that time.
Our students are supported throughout their training with a program of study leave to attend professional courses and to revise for their exams but more than that, the CM Approach ensures that all trainees gain hands on experience in all aspects of accountancy and fiduciary work. This means that, unlike many other practices where audit is the only training on offer, CM trainees qualify as skilled accountancy and fiduciary service practitioners, who have developed their skillset across all service lines enabling them to focus their future ambitions.
In return, we require our trainees to be dedicated and committed to both their studies and their work and to develop a high level of professionalism in order to meet the service standards our clients deserve.
We take pride in our training firm status and the excellent exam record our students have achieved, including a few prize winners along the way.
The CM Approach extends beyond our trainees as we firmly believe in challenging our qualified staff to reach their full potential. We therefore support a planned post qualification training program, tailor made to each identified professional aptitude. External leadership and management training is supported by on the job mentoring, ensuring that we allow our future leaders to flourish.
Whilst the roots of our practice are firmly rooted in accountancy, we recognise the importance of other qualifications to support and enhance our client experience.
We provide opportunities for STEP trainees to develop their career within our fiduciary practice, gaining invaluable experience of our bespoke services to international high net worth clients.
Compliance is the cornerstone of our business, so we support our compliance team through compliance institute qualifications to ensure they maintain the high standards of expertise required in our business.
- A competitive salary with exam successes rewarded with immediate salary increases.
- All training costs, including course fees, exam entries and professional fees paid, with paid leave for study
- Hands on training and mentoring
- Opportunities for direct client contact
- Varied role, with opportunities for personal development

Simply put, we know what we are doing! We have spent over 20 years training our teams, we know what works and we know what doesn’t. We believe in the CM Approach for both junior and senior staff: 5 of our original trainees are now Board Members.
We understand that to get the best out of staff they need a varied learning experience, with plenty of opportunities to identify new skills, develop and progress. We recognise this and we rotate staff between our teams as they progress so they are able to step up, take on new roles, including overseeing and helping train new staff. This helps identify and develop a range of skills and prepare our qualified staff for their future, whether that be promotion to our multiskilled management team or other opportunities.
As an accountancy practice and a licensed Trust and Corporate Service Provider we offer a diverse range of services to our clients. Each client has a specific Director and Manager who are their main point of contact, whatever the query. Our approach is for our staff to work in small teams, led by a manager. They are then able to deal with all aspects of our clients’ activities, whether it be wages, VAT, company accounts, or maybe some business planning advice. This gives our teams a unique, rounded experience and gives our customers the bespoke service they deserve.
Over the past 20 years the firm has grown in size, and now has over 60 staff. One of the primary ways we grow is to invest in our staff and help them develop, first as an accountant and then as part of our management team. We also employ qualified accountants and support their progress with management training, guidance, and mentoring.
No 2 days in the CM Approach are the same. There will be activities for clients that are done on a weekly or monthly basis, but we are very client focused so a typical day often involves changing plans and prioritising matters to deal with a client request. It certainly keeps things busy and interesting!

What Our People Say
“When I started with CM as a trainee fresh from university, I had no practical experience of working in accountancy. The all-round training I received didn’t pigeonhole me in one department for months on end — rather, it allowed me to experience not only practical accountancy in terms of accounts preparation, VAT and tax, but also meant I was dealing with much more complex matters involving our international Trust and Corporate clients.”
Denise Harris, Director
“I feel motivated working at CM knowing that my contributions are appreciated. It is a firm where professional growth is encouraged, and work-life balance is valued making it an enjoyable and rewarding place to work.”
Ida, Registration Manager
“CM has been a great company to start my accountancy career with. The training provided is hands-on, with all levels of management willing to provide support and mentorship, there is always someone around to help you learn and grow professionally. CM allows you to take on real responsibility but still have a life outside of work. “
Rachael, ACCA Trainee
“During my time at CM, I have had invaluable exposure across a broad range of clients, performing a variety of work that has increased my confidence and technical skills both as an individual and a trainee accountant. I have received strong support from management and my colleagues creating a positive learning environment. As a training firm, CM recognises the importance of work-life balance and provides the flexibility and encouragement needed to succeed in both work and studies, making it a rewarding place to develop professionally.”
Sonja, CAT, ACCA Trainee
“I joined CM Partners as a CAT Trainee and have since progressed to Manager, gaining my ACCA qualification along the way. CM Partners have provided me with the support and training to allow me to have enough knowledge and experience to manage a varied portfolio of clients from UK property management and local investment entities to a global investment group.”
