CM Connect: Sonja

Introducing

Sonja Shaw – Trainee Accounting Technician

This month we meet Sonja who is 2nd year of training with CM Partners

How long have you been with CM?

I started in July 2021 so nearly two years now.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

No two days are the same. You are exposed to so many different clients on a regular basis which leads to a huge variety of work which keeps it interesting. I also like how my role gives me the freedom to organise myself and be independent at a young age, just making sure I meet all deadlines.

What do you believe to be the most important qualities you need in your role?

Good written and spoken communication skills, time management and a passion to learn.

What advice would you give to someone considering a career in accountancy and fiduciary services?

If you are thinking of a career in accountancy but fear you must be a maths genius or it will be too difficult, my advice is to go for it as this is not necessarily true. You do not need any expertise in the field before you start. As long as you are willing to learn, give time and a hundred per cent effort, you will excel in this career path.

What hobbies or activities do you enjoy in your spare time?

My main hobby I like to do in my spare time is table tennis. I play local and off island league matches and competitions. I will be taking part in the Island Games in Guernsey this July.

Can you share one thing that we probably don’t know about you?

I used to also play on the Isle of Man team for football.
